How was 2024 for you?

For me 2024 has been many things and, like every year of my life so far, it has been very mixed, poignant and uplifting.

It would have been my fathers eightieth birthday and marks forty years since he passed. It marks ten years since I decided to create my own business and name it after him (in my mind we officially ‘opened our doors’ on May 26th 2015) so, to me, ten years hasn’t yet passed for the company.

2024 marks ten years since my mother passed and thankfully I did get to discuss the business with her and get her blessing for putting my fathers name to it. I’m so grateful that I got to have that conversation.

It has been my/our twenty-fifth, our silver wedding anniversary (thirty five years together) and it has been Graham John’s best year, perhaps also the hardest.

Through the years so many people have commented on how sad it is that I lost my father when I was young and yes I would have loved to have had him around for longer, to have known him better, to have shared more of my life with him and his with me.

All said and done I look at things this way:

To me, it is the most amazing thing that I am able to sit here and write this message, that you are reading these words. From the dawn of time to this very moment, the most incredible set of circumstances have provided me with an unparalleled gift, the gift of life, of being, of thinking and experiencing. It is a gift, a privilege to savour and, for all the hard and the sad moments, the fact that I get to feel them and have all of you in my life is something I will always cherish, wonder at and try to do the very best with.

Looking forward into 2025 I have no idea what life will bring, I have hope, aspiration, plans and a desire to make it as good as possible for myself and for everyone around me.

‘Make Life Special’.

I really enjoy the challenges we share with you each month and I had great fun with the Advent Challenges. I hope all the ‘challenges’ have given you some joy and inspiration through the festive period and the year. Hopefully some of them you may already be planning to do in 2025.

I feel the challenge of 2025 bearing down upon me and I am ready to embrace it, to meet it head on and, whilst surfing the crests and ploughing through the troughs, I will do everything I can to Make Life Special. With that in mind, here is the first of our ‘Make Life Special Challenges’ for 2025.

I hope it and the challenges that follow inspire you and I wish you health, fun and happiness through the coming year!
