A super blend of traditional exterior looks married to a fresh modern interior in a way that really works.
This is one of those homes that you walk into and instantly feel comfortable with. There is a flow and ease about the layout that makes you relax straight away. A wood burning stove in a living room somehow has the ability to calm, but here it is much more than that. There is a sense of space that means you don't feel cramped, it belies the cottage exterior and for some may defy expectation in a very pleasant way.
Perhaps it is a sense of connection you get with the garden, you find yourself drawn into the lovely modern kitchen, past the dining table and through the french doors into the garden and yes that is Hadlow Tower rising up in the distance, visible above the fence, it may be a surprise to see such a well-known and striking landmark and what a pleasant backdrop it is.
Throughout the home you get a sense of freedom, the bedrooms are wonderful sizes and one of the reasons the current owner moved here. The property had been refurbished when she bought it, 'very nicely done but, with a woman’s' eye I could see some simple things that would make it even more of a perfect home'. What were they? 'Nothing major but I made the under stairs storage much more accessible and the study area needed to be more functional, it's a great place to work now and has a cloakroom beside it, it might even suit a grumpy teenager if you need to hide one somewhere!' Whatever you choose to use the study for it is a brilliant area.
There is a stylish bathroom en suite to the master bedroom on the first floor. The top bedroom has an en suite shower room providing complete inndependence.
Outside there is a garage that wasn't there before, 'you really have to have one even if it is going to be a workshop or store room, having that building seems to complete this as a home.'
Moving here is a proper step into the countryside, a working countryside. There are lovely neighbours in the cluster of homes along this part of Blackmans Lane. Hadlow Village centre is within walking distance and is moments away by car. It still supports a butchers, a bakers and greengrocers plus there is a restaurant, hairdressers, Post Office and convenience stores. Broadview Gardens, part of Hadlow College is also just around the corner. There is a great tea room there and garden centre. The agricultural college is a real draw to the area and beside the cottage is Blackmans Farm one of their three commercial farms. The dairy, with 150 acres of arable crops supports their award-winning herd of 120 dairy cows.
Whether you choose to drive out through the lanes and explore the local villages and hamlets, wander into Hadlow centre for a drink and some shopping or go further afield this is a super location to start from. Nearby Tonbridge has a main line train station with services to London Bridge, Charing Cross, Cannon Street and Victoria. In the opposite direction you can be at Ashford International and on a Eurostar to Paris or further afield. Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone are all easily reached.
