This is a home that has a subtle surprise, the way it endears itself to you is delightful and it starts with a wonderful entrance reception.
It's often the asides that tell you the reality of life in a home, the best things. Ask why this home has been so special and the answers come thick and fast, set back off the road by that fifty-foot front garden, a lovely lounge/dining room, sixty-nine feet of rear garden, garage, a quiet area etc. This home ticks boxes in so many ways but for us it was an aside, an almost throw away comment that caught our attention. 'It's like living in a town whilst being in the countryside...', it was a comment that struck home because it so beautifully explains what is so great about living here.
Hawkinge sits a short distance in land from historic Folkestone. Drive to nearby Crete Road East as people sometimes do and you get a magnificent view over Folkestone out to sea and to Romney Bay. Turn inland and rolling countryside leads your eye to Hawkinge sat atop the hill. All of Folkestone’s shopping is just a matter of minutes away by car. Regular bus services connect Folkestone and the Cathedral city of Canterbury from here. Meanwhile the village has its own parade of shops with take-aways and general store. You have all the convenience of living in a town yet around you is glorious countryside. There are walks to enjoy and drives to take that provide hours of entertainment, from the Kent Battle of Britain Museum, Hawkinge was the closest airfield to France in World War II, to rural pubs and of course, 'just down the road', you can get access to the Channel Tunnel and take a thirty-minute train ride with your car to Calais.
As a home, the house itself has plenty to offer and you may see possibilities here to alter the house. We're told that the upstairs rear bedroom was once two rooms. Looking at the kitchen and dining area we can't help but wonder how it might look opened up into one room across the rear of the house.
We loved the garden, there are some beautiful plants in it, lovely shrubs and sat of an evening at the bottom of the garden, enjoying a drink in the evening sun, that feels like something that will always be a joy.
