Some homes seem to defy convention and are all the more interesting to live in because of it, we feel this is one of them.
When you're looking to find a slice of the rural life you probably have a few things on your wish list. Most likely you will want to look at countryside, to know that when you come home it is immediately obvious that you have escaped the boundaries of the town environment. You are probably hoping to find a community, you may want to be away from things, but not too far and you also are quite likely searching for somewhere that is a little different, perhaps even to find a home that you can shape into somewhere that is specifically you.
Well here's somewhere that can fit the bill in so many ways.
For those who don't know Smeeth and Brabourne Lees welcome to one of the best kept secrets around Ashford, a town for which some may say, 'the villages nearby are what really make it shine as a place to move to.'
Situated on the eastern side of the A20 between Ashford and Hythe, Smeeth is beautifully positioned near the Wye Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Cinque Port town of Hythe provides a quaint historic destination too, sprawling down the hillside overlooking the channel, it is a seafront destination with sandy beaches close by at Dymchurch and spreading round the bay into Romney Marsh.
Ashford, which is a simple drive, opens up a whole new world of communication with an International Rail Terminal putting Paris and the rest of Europe at your feet. A high speed link has you in St Pancras in thirty-eight minutes and access to the M20 puts all of Kent and beyond at your disposal. For those who love to take a car to europe then pop down to Folkestone for Le Shuttle or head to Dover and hop on a ferry, more sedate perhaps but a great way to start a European tour.
Everything is so convenient around you so what is there to know about the village itself then? Well Smeeth and Brabourne Lees provide a vibrant community, three pubs in the village each provide a different atmosphere and it's fun exploring which one or ones will become your favorites. There’s hairdressers and an exceedingly well stocked village store with post office counter and one that, true to village businesses, always is ready to help. Primary schools are located in Smeeth and toward nearby Brabourne.
There are lovely rural walks to explore around the area. Wander 'up to the Downs', yes we did say that, and you'll enjoy a magical view across miles of countryside both inland and to the coast line at Dungeness. Hatch Park is nearby for a rambling walk and there are numerous pathways elsewhere to discover and explore. Jump in a car and you have endless choices of country pubs to sample.
Who needs think of moving anywhere else then? Let's turn now to this unusual home and yes it is unusual! That's a good thing in our books. From the front it appears as a bungalow but with the land dropping away behind it is somewhere that not only provides a lovely outlook it surprises with another level of accommodation downstairs.
It is somewhere that instantly piqued our imagination and we've hatched countless plans in our mind for altering the accommodation. Would you need to do that? Not really, but the great thing is that this is a home that will allow those with imagination and a desire to change and improve to exert their influence and make a very special home. As it stands at the moment there is everything you need here and you can still choose how you think rooms will best suit your lifestyle.
The owner moved here with two children and loved it, 'I just had to be back in the village and the view at the back clinched it for me. It's the evenings especially, sat on the deck with the sun going down, that make it so so special!'
The kitchen is a bit of a standout too, parquet flooring strikes you straight away but space is the star feature here, it's a fabulous family room and if you pop french doors in to really draw in that view - wow! That's one addition most people will think of doing. The large storage room off the kitchen could have a window put in it to the side of the house. The owner used it as an office and it could be a great kids playroom, tv room or, well you decide on what works for you.
There you have it, a home with a very individual feel to it and in a great location. We look forward to showing you around and discussing how it can suit the life you are looking to lead.
