This is a cottage that draws you into a life and a community that offers something very special.
On a warm spring evening, standing on a footpath, for a moment a gentle breeze ripples across the field of wheat either side of you, countryside rolls away into the treeline and, as you look back at the point you started from, you can't help but think, what an incredible spot to live in.
All the more incredible when you realise that, from here, one of our clients commutes to work in London, the other to France and this magical little village has you within easy reach of Canterbury, Folkestone and Dover.
Originally, we don't think they realised just how special life was going to be, they followed a dream to find a period cottage in the countryside, sounds easy to find at first but it never is as simple as you expect is it?
'We didn't know what to expect, the village was somewhere we knew nothing about but the cottage lured us, Grade II listed, in a conservation area, open fire and parking. We had to come and see it and fell in love once we were here.'
There's lots to admire about the house, we'll talk about that in a moment but the revelation for our clients was the community they entered.
'We've had so much fun here, made some wonderful memories and incredible friends, ones we'll keep in touch with even after we've moved'.
Building the Village Hall must be one of the highlights of their time here, it was a community affair, everyone chipping in, work and fun combined. 'Just an incredible experience'.
It's easy to think there time here has been all about the people they've befriended but it has also been very much about personal moments. Sitting with a drink and a paper as the morning sun rises over the garden, dinners on the patio lasting into the evening, the warmth of a chiminea beside, stolen moments to relax on a hammock and glasses of wine around a table in the evening sun, tending to bees in hives they keep on a neighbours land.
Inside this Grade II Listed home you'll find a traditional cottage with modern twists, comforts that you don't expect to find. There's a brilliant utility room, off that a lovely shower room which provides a freedom when friends and family stay.
The downstairs is full of charming nooks and crannies, cupboards to hide things away in, open a door to find steps down to the cellar. The sitting room has a wonderful fire place, the wood burner providing a warmth that tempts use more often than perhaps it is needed, but who doesn't love an evening in front of the fire. There's a study, the third downstairs room, one with a vaulted ceiling and it is a great space, it could be a bedroom for guests if needed but as a library or home office it excels.
Upstairs used to be three bedrooms but the owners preferred to use the space differently, now you have a fabulous suite of rooms, a bedroom, dressing room with stylish wardrobes fitted along two walls and then you step through to a wonderful bathroom, beautifully finished it adds a touch of class with a very modern feel to this period home, as we mentioned, this home blends modern with traditional superbly. The other bedroom upstairs has a wonderful fireplace as a feature and it completes a house that provides excellent ground floor accommodation with a comfortable upstairs.
We love everything about this home, it has age and character, it has modern comforts, village appeal, delightful countryside is a simple stroll away, footpaths provide you with comfortable rambles and for dog owners, like our clients, this is a brilliant place to be.
